Whitey Herzog, the Hall of Fame manager who led the St. Louis Cardinals to three pennants and a World Series championship in the 1980s, died on Monday in St. Louis. He was 92 and had been the second-oldest Hall of Famer after Willie Mays. “Baseball has been good to me since I quit trying to play it,” Herzog liked to say. Signed by the Yankees in 1949, he never made it out of their minor league system, though he picked up a lifetime of baseball knowledge from Manager Casey Stengel at spring training camps. He played the outfield for four American League teams over eight seasons with only modest success.

In 2019, that picture looked quite different: 29% of new business owners were women, according to Gusto. The US Census does not break out new business formation by gender, and the most recent available data on women-owned businesses is from 2021. The business growth and the community impact garnered her a Young Entrepreneur Award from the US Small Business Administration. Filling the (skilled trades) gapYelp also found that in 2023, women opened more new home services businesses than beauty businesses. “There has absolutely been an uptick in interest over the last few years in this [skilled trades] work” by women, Perez said.

It’s a reality that’s all too common among bankers on Wall Street — and one that venture-capital investors are hoping to capitalize on . MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A judge on Thursday pushed back for four months the federal court trial of four former Memphis police officers charged with civil rights violations in the beating death of Tyre Nichols. Officers caught up with Nichols and punched him, kicked him and hit him with a police baton, video showed. An autopsy report showed Nichols died from blows to the head, and that the manner of death was homicide. Along with Martin, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith were fired after Nichols’ death. Norris ruled last week against Haley's motion to exclude expert testimony at the federal trial.

It is a problem that five U.S. state and federal judges are wrestling with as Trump faces four upcoming criminal trials and a civil fraud case. New York state Justice Arthur Engoron already has faced off with Trump on the issue. Trump has cast doubt on Chutkan's ability to give him a fair trial and called her "highly partisan." Ahead of his civil fraud trial, Trump, without providing evidence, accused the U.S. Justice Department of coordinating with New York state Attorney General Letitia James to damage his presidential campaign. One notable exception to Trump's criticism is the judge presiding over the classified documents criminal case in Florida.

[1/2] Model of a Pratt & Whitney GTF engine is displayed at the 54th International Paris Air Show at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, France, June 20, 2023. Engines potentially affected by the metal powder issue will not be put through the entire overhaul cycle, which typically lasts four to five months, Hayes said. Hayes acknowledged that news of the latest GTF problem was a "disappointment" but added that he expects the share price to recover. According to data from CAPA - Centre for Aviation, Pratt & Whitney has retained a market share of about 45 percent since 2017. The PW1100G is the GTF model affected by the powder metal problem.

BeondAbout three dozen airlines currently offer service to Velana International Airport, the Maldives’ main airport near the capital island Malé. “The Maldives is one of those markets that can fill an aircraft, even a mostly economy class cabin,” says Feuerherd. However all-business class airlines have used narrow-bodies before. There are no direct flights from Delhi, but carriers including Air India have business class seats from around $750 with a single connection. “There probably is a niche to carve out of premium travelers who want more of a private jet experience, but maybe don’t have the private jet budget.”

Price and Dunne may also be asked about the weekend resignation of Randall Stephenson from the tour’s board after more than a decade. The sport’s leaders have often handled their business in Washington behind closed doors, relying on a fount of good will and gentility. The tour faced a significant threat in the 1990s, when the Federal Trade Commission examined antitrust issues in golf before its inquiry fizzled amid a pressure campaign from Capitol Hill. But baseball has drawn much of the attention from Congress, like when senators called a 1958 hearing on antitrust exemptions. (“Stengelese Is Baffling to Senators,” read a subsequent headline in The New York Times, which reported that Yankees Manager Casey Stengel had lawmakers “confused but laughing.”)

THE ART THIEF: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession, by Michael FinkelAt first, Stéphane Breitwieser, the subject of Michael Finkel’s “The Art Thief,” appears to be having an enviable amount of fun. Twenty-five years old and living with his girlfriend, Anne-Catherine Kleinklaus, in a small set of upstairs rooms in his mother’s home in a “hardscrabble” manufacturing suburb in eastern France, Breitwieser is unburdened by such quotidian concerns as a job, making rent or planning for the future. He fancies himself a purer sort of soul, so devoted to beauty he must, in Finkel’s words, “gorge on it.” Over the course of a dizzying 200 pages that are also an effective advertisement for Swiss Army knives (Breitwieser’s only tool), he removes artwork after artwork from museums — a.k.a. “prisons for art” — and becomes “perhaps the most successful and prolific art thief who has ever lived.” He piled all $2 billion worth of artifacts he amassed over eight years into that same attic in his mother Mireille Stengel’s “nondescript” stucco house. Finkel includes satisfying evidence of this astounding loot in a color insert that shows a crammed jumble of “ethereal” ivory carvings, shining silver goblets, unctuous oil paintings and more.

Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign speech in Iowa sounded uncannily similar to Winston Churchill's. The syntax of his speech was similar to that of Churchill's iconic World War II speech. Ron DeSantis' channeled former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill at an Iowa campaign even this weekend, invoking Churchill's famous World War II speech to tout his own position on "woke" ideology. We will fight the woke in education, we will fight the woke in the corporations, we will fight the woke in the halls of Congress." However, Trump himself has invoked the same Churchill speech.

COOLIDGE, Arizona – From engines to landing gear, the hunt is on for aircraft parts as airlines prepare their jets for swarms of summer travelers, with new planes from Boeing and Airbus still in short supply. The search for parts leads some aircraft owners here, where older, retired planes are stripped for parts that will be prepared to fly on other planes or repurposed altogether. The current demand for aircraft parts is the result of the industry's deep demand swings resulting from the Covid pandemic. With deliveries of new jets behind schedule, airlines are holding onto planes longer, repairing or overhauling them, adding to demand for parts and labor. Donald Trump will testify in person in 2023 to defend his company against New York's $250 million lawsuit. He's the lead defendant in the state attorney general's suit, which seeks to bar him from doing business in the state. The revelation came on Tuesday as lawyers for Trump and the attorney general's office clashed heatedly in court over setting a trial schedule. "Donald Trump and entities would like to have a jury trial," Habba told the judge. "I don't know why I, my staff, not to mention the attorney general's staff need to go through this all against.
